Author introduction

Richard Wright wrote fiction that refuses the reader an exit. Native Son remains one of the most demanding selections our community has read together, and one of the most rewarding.

We schedule his work with a longer reading window, because members consistently ask for more time and more discussion space.

Meet the author

Why does this belong in a cozy literary community?

Because warmth is not the same as ease. A reading home should be able to hold a difficult book together.

What do members take away?

A sharper vocabulary for talking about structure, blame, and consequence.

Honest in a way I did not expect

I have read a lot of books in this category that tie everything up. This one sits with you in the corridor and does not pretend to know. I bought three copies.

I picked this up because of the group read and it turned into the best reading month I have had all year. The characters kept surfacing while I was doing dishes, which is my only real test for a book.
